TECHNOLOGY & COMMERCIAL CENTER

The Sarnia Refinery, located on the St. Clair River, was constructed during the early 1950s and placed on stream in October 1953 with a design crude oil capacity of 15,000 barrels per day. Over the following 15 years, facilities were added which increased the crude oil capacity to 38,000 barrels per day.

During 1974, a major expansion was completed and went on stream that increased the crude oil capacity to its present 80,000 barrels per day. During 1976 and 1977, facilities were added for the production of aromatics: benzene, toluene and xylene, which are the feedstocks used in the production of plastics and pharmaceuticals. This marked the advent of Sunoco into the chemicals field.

Beginning mid Fall 2000, Sunoco began producing two new products out of Sarnia — Sunoco 100 and Sunoco 150.
