Xylene

What is Xylene?

Xylene is a chemical that occurs naturally in crude oil but is supplemented by additional amounts made in the refining process. It is used in many common products, such as paints, rubber, adhesives, plastic bottles and clothing.

Manufacturing Information

Xylene is manufactured at Sunoco's Marcus Hook, PA, Eagle Point (Westville, NJ), and Toledo, OH refineries. Sunoco Chemicals also shares in the production of xylene from Suncor Energy's Sarnia, Ontario, Canada refinery. It is transported by truck, railcar and barge. Xylene is extracted from reformate by the Udex process.
